He is popularly called Buzeki or “Buzeki nebo Chego” (Buzeki
the milk man), he however likes calling himself Kiprop Bundotich. His interest
in the gubernatorial seat got many excited especially because of his affluence
and his easy-going nature. As the nomination date draws closer, Uasin Gishu
gubernatorial race gets tighter. We seek to understand who really Buzeki is.
According to his online profile (kipropbundotich.com),
Bundotich went to Molo Academy then to Mang’u High School. In 2004 he enrolled
for a course in Sales Management & Marketing at Cambridge International
College. The profile indicates that he holds a degree in Sales and Marketing from America University and has completed a number of business courses.
The business mogul is the founder of Buzeki Group. The
group’s name seemingly is an acronym of his names (Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop). The
group has diversified close to every sector; it incorporates companies in
dairy, transportation, general supplies, insurance, oil and car dealership
among others.
Kiprop is said to have started his business career in 1998 as
the Regional Sales Manager of Kilifi Plantations which was under Kilifi Gold.
He later introduced Tuzo Milk which became the bestselling milk brand in the
coast region. The success of Tuzo Milk enabled Buzeki to diversify into
transportation. He founded Buzeki Logistics which quickly grew to become one of
the main transport companies in the country. Buzeki later acquired Molo Milk
from Mau Summit and Limuru Milk. Molo Milk has however been sold to Brookside
Dairies.
The outspoken businessman who also prides himself as being a
professional athlete is said to be a dynamic leader. His close associates
describe him as a goal-oriented person with great innovation skills. Buzeki
banks on his enormous business and management experience to turn around the
fortunes of Uasin Gishu County. He
promises a robust management system of county resources paying a keen interest
on the agricultural sector.
